Dr. Joshua Slattery: The Ecological Role of Ammonites in the Late Cretaceous Seas of North America
On May 26, 2024, Dr. Joshua Slattery, from the University of Wyoming Geological Museum, will present a talk titled “The Ecological Role of Ammonites in the Late Cretaceous Seas of North America.” During the presentation, Dr. Slattery will explore how analyzing data on the diversity, feeding habits, habitat preferences, and evolutionary adaptations of Late Cretaceous ammonite cephalopods can illuminate critical information about shallow water marine ecosystems before the Cretaceous/Paleogene mass extinction event. Furthermore, he will discuss how the impact event associated with the Cretaceous/Paleogene mass extinction restructured shallow water communities, leading to the evolution of the Cenozoic marine faunas and ecosystems.
